The fusion of Orthopaedic, Radiology & Regenerative Medicine to deliver excellence in diagnosis and treatment

Causes of Hand and Wrist Pain

  • Hand and wrist pain can result from overuse injuries (carpal tunnel syndrome, tendinitis), arthritis (osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis), fractures, or nerve compression. Other causes include repetitive strain, ganglion cysts, and inflammatory conditions like De Quervain’s tenosynovitis.

Common Causes

    Wrist Pain
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Ganglion cysts
  • Muscle and tendon tears: extensor and flexor tendons.
  • De quervain’s tenosynovitis
  • Tendon tenosynovitis: flexor and extensor tendon groups.
  • TFCC ligament tears (Triangular Fibrocartilage Complex)
  • Proximal and distal intersection syndromes
    Hand and Finger Pain
  • Trigger finger
  • Tendon tears: Flexor and extensor tendons.
  • Ligament tears: Radial and ulnar collateral ligaments.

Hand & Wrist Ultrasound

  • High-resolution ultrasound plays a key role in diagnosing wrist and hand conditions. Unlike static imaging modalities such as MRI, CT, or X-ray, ultrasound allows for dynamic real-time evaluation, detecting specific issues that occur during certain movements and positions.

Ultrasound helps us in identifying

Hand and Finger Pain Causes
  • Trigger Finger
  • Tendon Tears (flexor and extensor tendons)
  • Ligament Tears (radial and ulnar collateral ligaments)
Wrist Pain Causes
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Ganglion cysts
  • Muscle and tendon tears (extensor and flexor tendons)
  • De quervain’s tenosynovitis
  • Tendon tenosynovitis (flexor and extensor groups)
  • TFCC ligament tears
  • Proximal and distal intersection syndromes

Other imaging methods include

  • Radiograph ( X-rays ) - It helps us in identifying the bony pathologies like bones alignment issues, fractures or tumors etc.
  • CT - Provides us the detailed images of bones and joints, enabling precise diagnosis and treatment planning. They help detect fractures, bone tumors, and joint disorders, enhancing patient care and outcomes.
  • MRI - Provides us the detailed images of soft tissues, muscles, and joints helping detection of conditions like ligament tears, cartilage damage, and joint abnormalities
  • 3D CT - Helps us in identifying the exact fracture lines , fragments orientation and planning of exact surgeries
  • Diagnostic Arthroscopy –This minimally invasive procedure helps allowing direct visualization of joints and helps in detecting joint abnormalities, injuries, and conditions for accurate diagnosis and treatment planning

Minimally Invasive Treatments

  • Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy
  • Growth factor concentrates (GFC) therapy
  • Fluid aspiration
  • Hydrodissection
  • Steroid injections
  • Radiofrequency ablation

Surgical Option

  • Arthroscopy, open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) for fractures, and elbow replacement (arthroplasty)
  • External fixator (Digifix) for finger fractures/ suzuki external fixator
  • Tendon repair
  • Carpal tunnel release
  • Wrist fusion
  • De quervain’s tenosynovitis
  • Diagnostic and surgical repairs
